Top 15 best photo editing apps for iOS and Android - 2022

Photo editors are a very competitive segment of mobile applications. There are simple editors that add filters and effects, to more complex editors that can handle RAW images. There are also editors that can do strange things like remove something from an image without damaging it. We tried our best to include a good selection of all types. Here are the best photo editing apps for Android.

Adobe apps

Adobe has released a number of editing tools in recent years. They include some of the best photo editing applications available. Some of these options are Adobe Photoshop Express, Adobe Photoshop Mix and Adobe Lightroom. Each of them has a variety of features that allow you to do many different things. You'll be able to do simple things like red-eye removal, and even edit RAW files taken with smartphones and DSLR cameras. In particular, Adobe Lightroom is updated fairly frequently and new features are added. The only caveat is that some of the features require an Adobe Creative Cloud subscription to use them all. If you already use Adobe CC, you can certainly get them, as they are included in the CC subscription.

AirBrush

AirBrush is an excellent choice for editing photos of people. It has many people-specific functions, such as acne removal, skin smoothing, redness removal, and a teeth and eye brightener function. There is also a bokeh mode that allows you to take any photo with a blurred background. In addition, the app has a separate camera function that allows you to edit photos before taking them. So, you can frame your selfie in the camera and then add edits before taking the final photo. Some of the more advanced features have subscriptions, but you can get a 7-day free trial to try it out before you spend anything.

Bazaart

Bazaart is a fairly popular photo editor on iOS, but the Android version is no slouch. The app has a number of features, such as a background eraser tool and various saturation, exposure, contrast and tint adjustments. It also has the usual mobile photo editor features, such as filters, text, backgrounds and stickers. A big draw is the background tool, which lets you add different backgrounds to existing photos. The app offers a free trial, but then becomes one of the more expensive options on the list at $5.99 per month.

InShot Photo Editor Pro

InShot Photo Editor Pro is a pretty decent editor. It's a new style editor with hundreds of things like filters, stickers and other similar effects. The app houses all these effects in a store-like layout, and you can choose which ones you want to download. Of course, some of them are only available in the Pro version, so keep that in mind. In any case, you can edit some photos. You can retouch photos, crop from images, and do other basic things like cropping. The $7.99 annual subscription is relatively reasonable as long as you use the app consistently. In addition, the developer has other photo and video editing apps in the Play Store.

Motionleap

Motionleap (formerly Enlight Pixaloop) is a photo app with some very cool tricks. It turns static photos into GIF-style images with a few simple swipes or taps. The effect works best with things like water and clouds, but there are plenty of other use cases as well. Other examples include adding elements that weren't there before, or overlays that add to the mood of the photo. It does not remove red-eye or crop the photo. However, the ability to add some additional effects is useful. The only real drawback is that Motionleap costs $3.99 per month, and many of its most desirable features require the premium version.

Photo Effects Pro is undoubtedly the editor for those who like to play with filters, effects, stickers and the like, as it features over 40 filters and effects, plus the ability to add text, stickers and frames. The editing functions are actually quite basic. However, the developers have recently modified the app, and with that, some much-appreciated filters and features have been removed. Hopefully the developer will add them back soon.

Photo Mate R3

Photo Mate R3 is the spiritual successor to Photo Mate R2, which was one of the best photo editors on this list. It's still new, so expect it to evolve and improve over time. For now, you have access to a fairly powerful set of editing tools, including all the basics. It also has native support for RAW files, which is great for photographers. The app also includes a collection of lenses, so you can fix lens issues like vignetting, distortion and chromatic aberrations. This is about as professional as you can get on Android. Pixlr

Pixlr by AutoDesk, also known as Pixlr Express, is a powerful photo editor that our readers have recommended to us time and time again. It has one of the best one-touch enhancement tools we've seen, and has many other features and tools. There are also filters, albeit cleverly disguised as "overlays," and cosmetic editing tools such as blemish removal and teeth whitening are included. One of the best photo editing apps for everyone.

TouchRetouch

TouchRetouch is one of the most unique photo editing applications. It doesn't do the usual things like smoothing skin or removing red-eye. Instead, it removes other things from your photos. It can remove unsightly wires from a photo, remove small objects you don't want there, and in some cases, even remove people. The app works very well or not at all. We don't recommend expecting miracles, but for the most part it does a pretty decent job; it's available for $1.99, so be sure to try it out before the refund phase ends. You can also use it for free if you have Google Play Pass.

Vimage

Vimage is a new photo editing app with decent features - very similar to the cinematic feature of the LG V40. It allows you to take a photo without moving elements and add moving elements to it. It allows basic editing such as brightness, blur, crop, rotate and saturation. In addition, you can add any of several preset animations to bring your photos to life. In our tests, we tried adding steam to food and dropping petals on selfies (please spare us the criticism). This way, you can create unique animated photos that you wouldn't see in everyday life. The app has several subscription options or, if you don't mind the cost, you can buy it for a one-time fee.
